Accessibility

Hello Harford County runs on Brightr. We want everyone to be able to use it, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or other assistive technology.

Standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 Level AA).

Status

Partially conformant: parts of the site do not yet fully meet the standard. These are the gaps we know about and are working on:

  • On the small map inside a page, some screen readers skip the numbered pins. Every pin is also in the list beside or below the map.
  • On the full map page, reaching the map from the keyboard means passing every place in the list first; there is no skip link yet.
  • The Ask box does not yet show a visible outline when it has keyboard focus.
  • In the pop-up version on other websites, the Escape key closes the panel only when focus is outside it.
  • Passport forms rely on placeholder text instead of visible labels, and their error messages are not yet tied to the field.
  • A screen-reader review (NVDA and VoiceOver) by a person has not been completed yet.
